Parliament began debating a bill on Wednesday afternoon aimed at protecting young people from radicalisation. Sponsored by the Education Ministry, the legislation would introduce restrictions on social media use by children under the age of 16. It would also establish a mechanism for the coordinated assessment of risks related to radicalisation and mobilisation to violence.
The legislation was presented to Parliament by Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD), who addressed Tuesday's (29 September) attack at an elementary school in the village of Staškov. In this context, the minister stated that there was a need to adopt changes that would enable the earlier and more intensive detection of the risk of violence.
