The Slovak national football team strengthened its case for promotion with two home victories and is currently making steady progress toward promotion to League B of the UEFA Nations League. After a 2–0 victory over Moldova, they also defeated Kazakhstan 2–1 at the Košice Football Arena on Tuesday, while favorable results in the other matches have put them in an ideal position.
The Slovak goals were scored by Leo Sauer and David Hancko.
“We want to focus on ourselves. We want to win the group, that’s the goal, and we’re going for it. I believe we can achieve it,” said Slovak captain Milan Škriniar.
During the current international break, Slovakia still have matches away to the Faroe Islands (October 2, 8:45 p.m.) and Moldova (October 6, 8:45 p.m.). With the schedule so congested, coach Vladimír Weiss is planning to rotate his lineup.
After two rounds, Slovakia are top of Group 3 with a four-point lead over their nearest rivals. Coach Weiss would like to maintain this momentum and collect more points that would bring his team closer to promotion to League B.
