Two Bulgarian nationals detained following an arson attack in Munich, Germany, on September 3 were part of a group linked to the Russian military intelligence agency GRU. The group allegedly operated from Slovakia, the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing security service sources. Sources indicated that the group also planned an attack—which was thwarted—on the Skyeton drone factory near Prešov, TASR reported, citing The Insider.
During the incident in Munich, a Bulgarian man and woman threw two incendiary devices from a moving vehicle onto a construction site near the headquarters of Rohde & Schwarz. The company supplies drones to the Ukrainian armed forces. The resulting fire was quickly extinguished.
According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, investigators have linked the attack in Munich and the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4 to the Russian military intelligence agency GRU.
Officers from the anti-crime unit of the Bureau for Combating Organized Crime (under the Police Corps Presidium) thwarted a planned arson attack on a manufacturing plant near Prešov. Latvian and Ukrainian nationals were detained in Slovakia in connection with the case, while a third suspect was arrested by German authorities in Hamburg based on a European Arrest Warrant.
According to the Slovak police, the attack could have caused a massive fire, endangered human lives and health, and resulted in significant damage.
