Slovakia’s Supreme Audit Office has warned that water management infrastructure has long suffered from underinvestment. It estimates the backlog for infrastructure renewal at €8–10 billion, saying current price regulation has failed to secure sufficient funding for renewal and development.
The Regulatory Office for Network Industries rejects this assessment, maintaining that current prices are sufficient to cover these needs. According to the regulator, the main problem is that water utility companies are failing to invest adequately the funds earmarked for infrastructure renewal.
