Slovakia’s largest gas supplier SPP said it was considering imports from Algeria and Azerbaijan to partially replace Russian gas ahead of the EU’s planned phase-out of Russian pipeline supplies. SPP said it was negotiating with several international suppliers and had already successfully tested gas imports from Azerbaijan. Supplies from Algeria would be more complicated because of the longer transit route through Tunisia and Italy. SPP also said households should not face significant gas price increases in 2027, as supplies for that period had already been purchased.
