Demand from towns and villages for cameras in schools is huge and cannot be fully met, Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Hlas-SD) declared on Tuesday in response to a journalist's question.
"The demand from individual municipalities, as school operators, and from school principals is huge. We will not be able to meet it in full. It's going to depend on the resources available to us," the minister claimed.
He noted that different types of smart cameras are currently being tested at 10 schools. According to Šutaj Eštok, the cameras will subsequently be evaluated. "Based on this, the documents for public procurement will be prepared so that a tender can be launched for the individual cameras to be installed at schools," he added.
The minister said the aim was to sign a framework agreement in such a way that individual schools could join the project gradually. "My goal remains to involve as many schools as possible by the end of this government's term. If the number were to approach 500, I think that would be a good start to the whole project, because the trend in other countries is clearly showing that such a security system helps both municipalities and schools in terms of safety," the minister underlined.
