Slovakia is stepping up engagement with the Indo-Pacific, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (SMER-SD) said during EU foreign ministers’ talks in New York on Monday. He described the region as a strategic priority, highlighting its importance for global trade, investment, technology and supply chains.
Blanár said the Indo-Pacific is home to around 60 percent of the world’s population and accounts for more than 60 percent of global GDP. Slovakia plans to reopen its embassy in Australia in October, following the opening of a new embassy in Malaysia earlier this year. It also plans to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with ASEAN, with formal accession expected in November.
In New York, Blanár also highlighted a new V4-India format, which he called a historic achievement after 11 years of Slovak efforts. The sides agreed to meet regularly and deepen cooperation in trade, technology, defence and space, with an annual business forum also planned. India described the talks as productive.
