The National Bank of Slovakia has launched the first edition of its Graduate Education Programme, an international initiative for young economists and future economic policymakers. The central bank says it is the first programme of its kind among eurozone central banks, combining academic education with practical experience in economic policymaking.
A total of 215 graduates from around the world applied for the programme, representing every continent except Australia. Fourteen participants were selected and will spend the next year studying and working alongside experts from central banking and academia.
The National Bank of Slovakia says the programme aims to help develop a new generation of economists, strengthen links between academia and policymaking, and build a network of experts who could go on to work in central banking, public administration, international institutions or academia.
