A showcase of Czechoslovak cinema opens Tuesday at the Cinemateca Capitólio in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The festival, titled Literakino: Between Words and Images of Czechoslovakia, runs until October 11 and explores the links between literature and film.
The programme features seven Slovak feature films and three animated shorts, covering productions made between 1930 and 1980. The selection includes works inspired by novels and stories by prominent Czechoslovak writers, as well as films created by authors themselves.
Among the highlights are Štefan Uher’s The Sun in a Net, Eduard Grečner’s Nylon Moon, Martin Ťapák’s Pacho, the Outlaw of Hybe, and Dušan Hanák’s Pink Dreams. The programme also includes Viktor Kubal’s Outlaw Jurko, Slovakia’s first feature-length animated film.
