President Peter Pellegrini left for the United States on Sunday afternoon to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) is also part of the delegation. While in New York, Pellegrini will deliver an address during the UNGA general debate, attend a meeting of the UN Security Council and hold several bilateral meetings. He is also due to attend a farewell meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, whose second and final term will end at the end of the year.
The general debate is due to start on Tuesday (22 September), with Pellegrini's address scheduled for Wednesday (23 September).
Pellegrini will also meet with Czech President Petr Pavel at an exhibition called 'Visit Czechoslovakia! The Stories of Czech and Slovak Travel Posters' which, through historic tourism posters, explores how Czechoslovakia presented itself to audiences at home and abroad. Together with other presidents, the Slovak head of state will also attend the fifth edition of the 'Slovaks in Concert' event presenting Slovak culture during the week of the general debate.
