The number of companies leaving the Slovak market continues to rise. Most recently, the Bosch plant in Bernolákovo announced mass layoffs, citing high labor costs as one of the reasons. Experts also point to the heavy tax and social security contribution burden, while the Minister of Labor views mass layoffs as a common occurrence.
After nearly 75 years, the Hubert company is closing its production plant in Sereď and moving operations to the Czech Republic. The brand builds on a tradition dating back more than 200 years; the first sparkling wine winery outside France was originally established in Bratislava in 1825. Hubert states that the company's economic sustainability was one of the reasons for the departure. Despite investments, the firm failed to utilize its full production capacity. Consequently, it will relocate production to sister plants in Starý Plzenec and Mikulov.
