The US House of Representatives has approved a package of sanctions targeting Russia’s energy sector. It would allow President Donald Trump to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on the five largest importers of Russian oil and gas, including Slovakia. The measure passed by 262 votes to 159. The Senate approved the legislation early last month. Meanwhile, President Trump has again threatened the European Union with higher tariffs, citing its move towards closer ties with Canada. The EU and Canada have stepped up cooperation since Ottawa became embroiled in a trade dispute with Washington last month. Brussels says the emerging partnership is not directed against the United States.
