If nothing changes and the situation surrounding oil and fuel supplies is not resolved, the price of diesel could rise above two euros a litre. Gabriel Szabo, Chairman and CEO of Slovnaft, issued the warning after Wednesday’s government meeting. He had been invited to discuss current fuel prices with ministers. Szabo said the government had asked the refinery to keep its prices under control. He added that there were no talks about imposing additional taxes on Slovnaft. He pointed to Slovakia’s fuel prices as evidence that the refinery is already exercising restraint. Slovakia has the second-cheapest fuel among the Visegrád Four countries and is generally among the cheapest quarter of EU member states.
