Slovakia’s newly established National Commission for Water and Drought held its first meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Robert Fico. The commission will coordinate the state’s response to drought, water shortages and growing pressure on water resources. Fico described tackling drought and restoring water infrastructure as a key government priority. Planned measures will include modernising irrigation systems and improving water retention in the landscape, with particular attention to agriculture.
