Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) has travelled to Malta, where he has held talks with his Maltese counterpart Chris Fearne. The two ministers discussed EU decision-making, migration, the bloc’s next long-term budget and bilateral economic cooperation. According to Blanár, Slovakia and Malta share a position on preserving veto rights in EU matters where unanimity still applies, as well as maintaining cohesion policy and support for farmers. Blanár also announced plans to open an honorary consulate in Malta. Maltese President Myriam Spiteri Debono is expected to visit Slovakia in March next year.
