The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled that Slovakia failed to meet its obligations on urban wastewater treatment in several municipalities. The case concerns 25 locations where wastewater does not meet EU treatment requirements, including 17 where adequate secondary treatment was not provided. Slovakia has been ordered to cover the legal costs. The European Commission referred the case to the EU’s top court in December 2024 after earlier warnings failed to fully resolve the shortcomings.
