The University of Economics in Bratislava will host a series of demonstration lessons, workshops and lectures offering visitors the chance to explore languages and cultures from a variety of perspectives. LingvaFest 2026, a language festival that attracted nearly 5,000 visitors last year, will take place this year on Thursday and Friday, September 10 and 11. The event is being held in connection with the European Day of Languages, celebrated every year on September 26. Festival coordinator Peter Baláž told TASR.
“Knowing foreign languages helps people from different cultural backgrounds understand one another and plays an important role in overcoming barriers and building bridges between communities. The aim of the festival is to promote language skills, cultural awareness and tolerance in a fun and inspiring way,” Baláž said.
The event is free of charge and is aimed primarily at primary and secondary school students, as well as anyone interested in languages, travel and cultural diversity. Visitors can look forward to dozens of interactive presentations, workshops, language crash courses, quizzes and cultural performances. The festival will showcase a wide range of languages.
For students in particular, the festival will offer short language courses, or “crash courses,” giving them the opportunity to get acquainted with dozens of languages. The program will also include language quizzes and games. Lectures and workshops will focus on effective language-teaching methods, as well as new apps and tools that can enhance the learning process. The festival will also provide an opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues and experts in language education.
LingvaFest will also feature a cultural program showcasing the art and culture of different countries through performances in various languages. In addition to lectures, workshops, crash courses and cultural performances, visitors will be able to explore booths run by cultural and educational institutes and embassies, as well as publishers and language schools.
The festival is organized by the civic association Edukácia@Internet. Co-organizers include the University of Economics in Bratislava and the Slovak Esperanto Federation.
