Slovakia and Poland have signed a letter of intent to deepen bilateral cooperation in defence and the defence industry under the EU’s SAFE instrument. The agreement was signed on Monday in Nowa Dęba by Slovak Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák (SMER-SD) and his Polish counterpart Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The cooperation will focus on two areas — ammunition production and Poland’s SAN programme for countering drones. Kaliňák said Slovakia wants to contribute to the security of its neighbours and praised Poland as a leader in military modernisation in Europe. He also highlighted Poland’s counter-drone capabilities.
Kosiniak-Kamysz, meanwhile, praised Slovakia’s experience and production capacity, particularly in ammunition manufacturing. He also thanked Slovakia for providing recently purchased radars to help protect Polish airspace as part of NATO’s Eastern Sentry operation. The Slovak Minister was in Nowa Dęba as an honorary guest at a demonstration involving the 18th Mechanised Division’s combat group.
