The 21st edition of the Cinematik International Film Festival opens in the Slovak spa town of Piešťany on Tuesday and runs until Sunday.The festival will screen more than 80 feature films, alongside a selection of short films, with a focus on European and Slovak cinema. Ten films will compete in the main Meeting Point Europe section, featuring titles from prestigious festivals including Cannes, Sundance, Berlin and Venice.
Cinematik will open with the national premiere of The General, a historical drama by Slovak director Juraj Štepka, about Slovak military commander Rudolf Viest. Founded in 2006, Cinematik has grown into one of Slovakia’s largest film festivals, combining international cinema with a relaxed atmosphere in Piešťany’s spa setting.
