Slovakia’s Education Ministry is preparing a new system that would automatically increase salaries in education in line with the country’s average wage. Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) said the proposal should be presented by the end of this year.
Drucker said the main challenge will be securing funding and convincing coalition partners to support the plan. He stressed that teachers’ salaries need to become more competitive to make the profession more attractive.
Education trade unions are calling for regular salary increases for all education employees. They expect the new system to be introduced in 2028.
