Protecting the origin of traditional products can help preserve cultural heritage while supporting business, tourism and regional development, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said at an international conference in Bratislava.
Pellegrini welcomed European efforts to protect products closely linked to particular regions and highlighted Slovakia’s use of geographical indications for traditional crafts and industrial products. He said such labels can help Slovak products strengthen their position and value on the European market.
The president stressed that regional products reflect generations of knowledge, skills and traditions. Protecting them, he added, also helps preserve Slovakia’s cultural identity and Europe’s wider regional diversity.
