Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová (SNS nominee) has recommended that the Council of the Slovak Arts Council, or FPU, cancel the current selection process for its new director and launch a new call. She cited concerns over whether the existing process fully complies with the law and said the selection should be transparent and provide equal conditions for all candidates.
The recommendation comes ahead of a planned vote on September 8 and amid controversy surrounding recent personnel changes at the FPU Council. Šimkovičová dismissed claims that her removal of two council members was linked to their opposition to a particular candidate.
The two dismissed members, Peter Grutka and Adriana Tomičová, however, said they were removed after refusing to support acting director František Kornaj. They cited allegations concerning the possible surveillance of FPU employees and council members, which the Culture Ministry says should be independently investigated.
