The average nominal monthly salary in Slovakia amounted to €1,707 in the second quarter of 2026, up by 3.2 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday.
Gross monthly incomes of employees thus increased by €53 on average, with the rate of growth slowing down significantly to the lowest level seen in the past six years.
When adjusted for inflation, real salaries fell by 0.5 percent. The seasonally adjusted average salary increased by 0.6 percent compared with the first quarter of 2026.
Average nominal monthly salaries grew in 16 of the 19 monitored sectors y-o-y, with the growth in gross monthly income ranging between 1.8 percent in administrative services and 9.8 percent in real-estate activities. Conversely, gross income fell in three branches: in public administration by 4.8 percent, education by 0.2 percent and water distribution by 0.1 percent.
When considering inflation, seven branches saw a drop in real salaries, ranging from public administration (down by 8.2 percent) to art, entertainment and recreation (down by 0.1 percent). Conversely, of the 12 branches in which real salaries continued to grow, the highest rise was seen in real-estate activities, by 5.9 percent, and in mining, by 4.6 percent.
The highest average monthly salary of over €2,900 was earned by employees engaged in financial and insurance services, and in electricity, gas and steam supplies. The lowest earnings continued to be earned by employees in accommodation and catering services, with the average monthly salary reaching €974, the only branch which remained below the €1,000 mark.
In the first half of 2026, the average nominal monthly salary in Slovakia amounted to €1,659, up 4.6 percent y-o-y. Despite a decline in the second quarter, the real monthly salaries increased by 0.9 percent y-o-y in the first six months of this year.
