The Slovak Foreign Ministry has warned travellers about a deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in northern Nepal following an avalanche and severe flooding. The Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts and areas near the Tibetan border have been most affected.
The disaster has caused fatalities and extensive damage to roads, bridges, hydropower plants and telecommunications networks, with more than 40 kilometres of roads damaged. Rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing. The ministry has advised Slovak travellers to avoid affected areas, follow instructions from local authorities and monitor weather warnings and transport restrictions.
