SIS Officers Foil Alleged Arson Attack In Eastern Slovakia

Slovak Information Service director Pavol Gašpar has thanked SIS officers for several months of work that led to the detention of three suspects and the foiling of a planned act of sabotage. The operation concerned an alleged planned arson attack on Sky-aton, a drone manufacturing plant near Prešov in eastern Slovakia. Gašpar said the result would not have been possible without international cooperation and close coordination with Slovakia's security forces, Military Intelligence and the Police Corps. An investigator has charged three foreign nationals — two Latvians and a Ukrainian — with preparing an aggravated crime of general endangerment, allegedly acting as co-perpetrators on commission. One Latvian and the Ukrainian national were detained in Slovakia, while the second Latvian, a 26-year-old, was arrested by German police in Hamburg on Tuesday, according to the German weekly Der Spiegel. Slovakia has requested his extradition from Germany, where he remains in custody under a European arrest warrant.
