Slovakia’s Interior Ministry is strengthening cooperation with municipalities and regional authorities to prevent crime and improve public safety. The ministry has signed memoranda with the Association of Towns and Municipalities of Slovakia, known as ZMOS, and the Association of Self-Governing Regions, or SK8.
The agreements aim to improve the exchange of information, expertise and analysis on crime and other anti-social activity. They will also support prevention programmes, public awareness campaigns and educational initiatives, while identifying high-risk areas and developing policy proposals. The ministry says local authorities play a key role because they understand the problems facing their communities. Special attention will be given to schools, social care facilities and vulnerable groups.
