AGRIWOW Aims to Attract Young People to Agriculture

A new project called AGRIWOW aims to encourage more Slovak pupils to consider careers in agriculture, food production and forestry. The project brings together the Agriculture Ministry and AGRION, an association representing agricultural machinery suppliers, along with key education, local government, industry and academic organisations.

Agriculture Minister Richard Takáč (SMER-SD) says the project targets students in the seventh to ninth grades of primary schools. It will provide pupils and their parents with information about study and career opportunities, working with teachers and career counsellors.

Agriculture has changed significantly, with digital technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, drones and automated machinery becoming increasingly common. Takáč says the sector needs more skilled young professionals and that the ministry must do more to attract them. He described AGRIWOW as a first-of-its-kind project for the ministry.
