Slovakia’s 2027 state budget should focus on tackling the consequences of drought, constructing a new nuclear power source and developing transport infrastructure, according to Prime Minister Robert Fico of Smer-SD.
Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický (Smer-SD) said these priorities would require hundreds of millions of euros and would be difficult to accommodate in an already tight budget. He said the coalition must find a political compromise to keep public finances under control, meet necessary European criteria and maintain the social standard of ordinary people. Kamenický also warned that Slovakia’s approach to public finances would affect investors’ attitudes towards the country.
