Culture Minister Receives Bulgarian Ambassador to Also Discuss Cooperation

Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová (SNS nominee) received Bulgaria's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Slovakia Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova on Tuesday to discuss the further development of Slovak-Bulgarian cultural relations, their shared cultural and historical heritage, support for the Bulgarian national minority in Slovakia, and specific opportunities for cooperation between cultural institutions in both countries.

One of the topics of discussion was the sharing of experiences from the 'European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026' project. The Bulgarian city of Burgas is bidding for the title of European Capital of Culture 2032. Both sides therefore see scope for linking the teams from Trenčín and Burgas, exchanging experience, holding working consultations and organising study visits.

"Our countries are united by an exceptionally deep shared cultural and spiritual heritage. The Cyril and Methodius tradition is one of the strongest symbols of these ties. Great Moravia was where Constantine-Cyril and Methodius carried out their work, and Bulgaria subsequently played a crucial role in preserving, developing and further spreading their educational and literary legacy," said Šimkovičová.

Both sides also see scope for further cooperation in the field of shared cultural heritage. These historical ties have also given rise to intensive linguistic, literary and academic contacts between Slovakia and Bulgaria.
