Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) visited the Jaslovské Bohunice nuclear power plant to discuss the resilience of Slovak reactors to extreme drought, as well as preparations for a new nuclear unit, with plant management, representatives of Slovenské elektrárne and expert organisations.
Fico pointed to measures currently being taken in Hungary and Romania to maintain at least minimum output at their nuclear power plants amid low water levels. “Fortunately, our cooling technology is different, and we're not dependent on river levels. Electricity comes above everything else. You cannot produce anything without it,” Fico stressed.
The Prime Minister has criticized the slow progress in preparing the new nuclear unit project at the Jaslovské Bohunice plant. The Economy Ministry acknowledges that certain steps related to the project's preparation have been unnecessarily delayed. In a statement, the ministry added that its priority remains advancing the project as quickly as possible through a responsible and transparent process that serves Slovakia's best interests.
