Slovakia witnessed its most significant solar eclipse in 27 years on Wednesday evening.
The Moon covered a large part of the Sun in western Slovakia, while the eclipse was less pronounced in the eastern parts of the country. The best viewing conditions were in the west, where the Moon obscured the largest portion of the solar disc.
The entire eclipse could not be observed from Slovakia, however, as the Sun set before the phenomenon had ended.
The last similarly significant solar eclipse visible in Central Europe occurred in 1999. Skywatchers in Slovakia will not have to wait decades for another opportunity, as a partial solar eclipse will also be visible from the country next year.
