Etnographer, folk-song performer and radio editor Darina Laščiaková has died at the age of 94.
Born in Tvrdošín in 1931, she studied musicology at Comenius University in Bratislava and was a soloist with the Lúčnica ensemble during her university years.
From 1961, she worked as a music editor at Czechoslovak Radio in Bratislava, preparing numerous programmes about folk songs and music, in which she also performed herself.
She was a multiple winner of the Prix Bratislava radio competition and made numerous recordings for radio, television and records. She was particularly known for songs from the Orava region, including the famous wedding song Zbohom ostávajte, mamičkine prahy.
Laščiaková also appeared in several films. In 1975, she was awarded the title of Merited Artist. She also received several international awards for recordings of folklore.
President Peter Pellegrini also acknowledged her death.
