The number of Ukrainians receiving temporary protection in Slovakia rose by more than 2,000 in June, reaching over 147,000, according to Eurostat. Slovakia has the second-highest number of Ukrainian refugees per capita in the EU, with 27.2 people under temporary protection for every 1,000 residents. The EU average is 9.8 per 1,000.
Across the EU, more than 4.4 million Ukrainians were under temporary protection at the end of June. The scheme, introduced shortly after Russia’s invasion, provides refugees with residence rights, access to work, education and healthcare. EU countries have extended the protection until March 2027.
