Fewer Young Slovaks Are Using Tobacco Products

Tobacco and nicotine use is becoming less common in Slovakia, especially among younger people. According to Eurostat, the share of daily users fell from 18.1 percent in 2022 to 16.3 percent last year. The biggest decline was among people aged 25 to 34, while use among those over 50 remained largely unchanged. The figures include traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes, heated tobacco and nicotine pouches. The European Commission aims to reduce tobacco use across the EU to below five percent by 2040. However, studies show that newer nicotine products are becoming increasingly popular among young people and can still pose health risks.
