Property crime accounted for the largest share of criminal activity in Slovakia last year, according to the Prosecutor General’s annual report. Theft was among the most common offences, with 3,597 people prosecuted — a 44 percent drop from 2024, largely due to changes in the law, including a higher threshold for criminal damage.
Fraud, including cyber fraud, involved 663 people, while 880 were prosecuted for the illegal production or use of payment instruments. Meanwhile, the most frequently prosecuted offence overall was driving or operating under the influence of drugs or other substances, involving 4,620 people — up 9.2 percent year-on-year. Prosecutors attributed the increase partly to more effective detection using modern drug tests.
