Police Reclassify Attack on Indian Student in Nitra

Police in Nitra have reclassified an attack on a group of Indian nationals as a criminal offence, including assault motivated by hatred based on race or nationality, as well as disorderly conduct. The incident, which was initially treated as a minor offence, happened overnight on July 31st to August 1st. An Indian student was taken to hospital and underwent surgery after being attacked by an unidentified person. He has since filed a criminal complaint with prosecutors.

The case is now being investigated by the Nitra regional criminal police. The student has received support from the city’s Mayor and the Rector and Faculty of Arts of Constantine the Philosopher Universityin Nitra. They condemned violence, racism, xenophobia and hatred, stressing that everyone should be able to live and study in Nitra without fear of being targeted because of their background.
