A major Europol operation targeting international migrant smuggling networks has also involved Slovakia. The criminal groups organised illegal transport routes from Libya through Italy and along the Western Balkans, with migrants later being moved through countries including Slovakia towards Western Europe. Europol says the networks helped smuggle more than 900 migrants, often exposing them to dangerous conditions. Three suspected high-ranking members were arrested in Germany and Serbia as part of the coordinated investigation involving several European countries.
