The state budget posted a deficit of €2.963 billion at the end of July 2026, which was an improvement of €673 million, or 18.5 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Finance Ministry reported on Tuesday.
State-budget incomes rose by €1.712 billion, or 12.7 percent y-o-y to €15.239 billion, while expenditures grew by €1.039 billion, or 6.1 percent to €18.203 billion in July.
"Tax revenues increased by €844.1 million (7.1 percent) y-o-y in July. Positive developments were posted for almost all kinds of taxes: revenues from value-added tax went up by €421 million, corporate tax revenue by €317.2 million, excise tax rvenue by €54.6 million, and revenue from insurance tax by €20 million," stated the Finance Ministry. The ministry added that it also recorded a positive development in revenues from the financial transaction tax, which increased by €155.8 million y-o-y and from income tax, up by €71.6 million.
Meanwhile, the special levy on business activities in regulated sectors fell by €145.8 million y-o-y, and the solidarity contribution from activities in the oil, natural gas, coal and refining sectors was down by €27.7 million.
Revenues from withholding tax decreased by €19.4 million, while those from motor vehicle tax shrank by €2.5 million.
Incomes from the EU budget rose by €156 million y-o-y (20.3 percent).
"State budget expenditures related to drawing EU funds increased by €143.3 million (14.7 percent), while expenditures related to drawing from the Recovery and Resilience Plan rose by €627.8 million (82 percent).
The contribution to the EU budget posted a y-o-y increase of €167 million (30.3 percent).
The cost of servicing the state debt grew by €404.9 million (37.6 percent) y-o-y in July.
