Bratislava has recorded its highest temperature ever, with thermometers reaching 39.9 degrees Celsius on Monday afternoon. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, or SHMÚ, confirmed the record was measured at Koliba, where temperatures came just one tenth of a degree short of 40 degrees. The new reading breaks the previous maximum temperature record for the Slovak capital. SHMÚ meteorologist Janka Čerbová said the record could be challenged again on Tuesday, as extremely hot weather is expected to continue. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and take extra care during the peak afternoon heat.
