Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) says Slovakia is preparing to strengthen the protection of its eastern Schengen border with Ukraine, including through military measures.
Speaking on TA3 television, Kaliňák said that the end of armed conflicts is often followed by large-scale movements of weapons, including heavy arms, and Slovakia must be prepared.
Opposition KDH deputy chairman Viliam Karas agreed that the country should strengthen its security capacity in eastern Slovakia, warning that people from war-affected areas could arrive after the conflict. He argued that the Interior Ministry should already be addressing the issue.
