Interior Ministry to Remove Long-uninsured Vehicles from Registry

The Interior Ministry will begin removing vehicles without mandatory insurance from the national registry this weekend. More than half a million vehicles have reportedly been uninsured for over two years. Owners will first receive a notice giving them until October 1 to insure their vehicle. If they fail to do so, it will be removed from the registry. From then on, authorities will also introduce automated checks. Uninsured vehicle owners could face repeated fines ranging from 120 to 900 euros, depending on the vehicle’s weight. The Ministry says the new rules are intended to encourage drivers to maintain valid compulsory insurance.
