The Slovak Film and Television Academy has selected Potopa as Slovakia’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. Directed by Martin Gonda, the film tells the story of the displacement of a Rusyn community following the construction of the Starina water reservoir. The movie has received six national Sun in a Net film awards, and the academy says it has strong international potential. The nominees for the 99th Academy Awards will be announced in late January, with the ceremony scheduled for March 14, 2027.
