President Pellegrini To Pay State Visit To China

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini will travel to China on Sunday for a three-day state visit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. During their meeting, the two heads of state are expected to discuss bilateral relations, economic cooperation and current international issues. Pellegrini will also hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

The Slovak President's Office says the visit will focus on attracting high-value investments and creating new opportunities for Slovak businesses. The two sides are also expected to discuss expanding cooperation in science and research, transport, logistics, industry, agriculture and tourism, as well as international efforts to promote peaceful solutions to conflicts in line with international law.

The visit will be the fifth by a Slovak President to China since Slovakia became independent and the first in sixteen years. According to the President's Office, it follows the establishment of a strategic partnership between Slovakia and China during Prime Minister Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) visit to Beijing in 2024.
