Slovenské elektrárne has launched Slovakia's largest battery energy storage facility at the site of the former Nováky coal-fired power plant.
The installation has a capacity of 36 megawatts and will help stabilise the electricity grid by storing surplus electricity and supplying power during periods of peak demand. It is also expected to improve the integration of renewable energy sources into both the Slovak and European electricity systems.
Part of the project was financed through Slovakia's Recovery and Resilience Plan. The company says the project marks a major step in transforming the former coal power plant into a centre for modern energy technologies while preserving the site's role in the country's energy sector.
