The Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic, KOZ, says workers’ pay is still failing to keep pace with the country’s economic performance. A new study shows Slovak labour productivity has reached 98 percent of the EU average, while the minimum wage stands at just 75 percent.
The findings come as talks continue over the 2027 minimum wage. If unions and employers fail to reach a deal by the end of August, it will rise automatically to 972 euros a month. KOZ argues higher minimum wages do not harm jobs or competitiveness and instead encourage innovation. It also says the current minimum wage of 915 euros falls well short of what is needed for a decent standard of living, which it estimates at 1,344 euros a month.
