The sixth edition of the “In the Footsteps of Hidden Children” memorial march begins on Sunday in Vrútky. More than 40 participants from across Slovakia will spend a week retracing the wartime journeys of Eli and Esti, two Jewish children who were forced into hiding during the Second World War.
The event combines remembrance with education and includes commemorations at Holocaust and Slovak National Uprising memorial sites. Organisers say this year’s march carries particular significance following the death of Holocaust survivor Eli Vago and amid growing attempts to reinterpret Slovakia’s wartime history.
