Slovakia's Defence Ministry is expected to begin moving into its new headquarters in the renovated Hviezda building, known locally as Kukurica, later this summer. Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) said the main construction work has been completed, with further landscaping and infrastructure upgrades still to come. The renovation of the landmark building cost around 49 million euros, with an additional 3 million euros spent on interior equipment. Kaliňák defended the investment, saying it had transformed a long-abandoned building into a modern government headquarters, while further redevelopment of the surrounding military complex is expected over the next decade.
