Slovakia has introduced new rules aimed at simplifying access to Slovak citizenship, particularly for descendants of former Czechoslovak citizens. Under the legislation, which took effect on 15 July, applicants with a Slovak-born parent, grandparent or great-grandparent who was a Czechoslovak citizen will no longer have to meet the standard eight-year residency requirement. The Interior Ministry says the changes will reduce administrative burdens and improve access to public services. The new rules also allow some citizenship-related applications to be submitted electronically or by post through Slovak embassies abroad.
