Czech and Slovak Plans for Joint Weapons’ Procurement

Czechia and Slovakia are expanding cooperation in the procurement of weapons. This was announced by the Defence Ministers Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) and Jaromír Zůna after negotiations in Prague. On Wednesday, they signed a memorandum on the future accession to the framework agreement concerning joint purchases.

Jaromír Zůna informed that Czechia and Slovakia want to jointly procure SAM-120 mortars for mechanized brigades. Prague is also interested in purchasing Tatra T815 vehicles. According to the Czech Defence Minister, the final decision should be made by mid-August.

Slovakia is also interested in Czech military equipment. Robert Kaliňák says that the Slovak government is considering purchasing about three ERA systems, which, thanks to unique technology, can track targets without transmitting a signal themselves. Kaliňák also noted that Bratislava is also interested in purchasing about 10 L39 Skyfox training aircraft.
