Propane cylinders exploded during a fire on Ivánska Road near Bratislava Airport overnight into Saturday. The explosions were triggered by the blaze, but no one was injured, Bratislava regional Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Štefan Koci confirmed. Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after midnight following reports of a fire affecting part of a building, a waste container area and nearby vegetation. "Before fire crews arrived, propane cylinders stored in the waste container area exploded. The blast damaged six passenger cars parked nearby," Koci stated.
During the operation, firefighters discovered four propane cylinders, two of which had already exploded. They searched the building's interior and roof to ensure the fire had not spread and monitored the site for any remaining hotspots before bringing the situation under control.
